After a few days of fruitful dialogue, spirited discussions, serios thought and even more serious laughter, the 12th edition of Constructions of Identity has come to an end. This year’s event brought together scholars of different backgrounds to discuss an all-too-contemporary topic: conflict.

Perspectives on conflict in literary works launched debates regarding writing and perception, identity, memory, loss and regaining, transformation and negotiation, consumption, nature, humanity, and so much more. The keynotes delivered by our distinguished guests, Jean Michel Ganteau, Corina Stan, Anne Schwan, and Dragoș Ivana, enriched and inspired us to question conflict and crises.

In parallel, the linguistics panels unveiled the perception of conflict in and through language, with the analyses of original corpora ranging from cultural and metaphorical expression to digital discourse, memes, and slang. The inner conflict of language itself was tackled in panels discussing the encoded conceptualisation of contrast across languages, between and also inside the minds of speakers. The keynotes delivered by the insightful Lauren Tilton and Martin Hilpert showed us that both confrontations and resolve are all around us.

With another edition gone, we now take the time to reflect on the people we have met, the friends we have seen again, the talks and laughs and good times we’ve shared. We hope to see you all and more next time for another Constructions of Identity moment.
